the strain for anyone trying to be someone s/...ken,
the strain for anyone trying to be someone s/he is not acceptable to me. living in fear every day is not acceptable to me. but, I do understand it. I was so glad when this great athlete stood up for himself and who he is. he eased the way for so many others. men, women, black, white, yellow, we all have the most basic of human rights to be comfortable in our own skin. we have a close family friend who is now 27 and has not come out to his mom. his dad knows. mom is in denial. I encouraged him to let his mom know who he really is. I know she knows, but he needs to have the confirmation. further, his mom's first reaction may not be a reliable predictor of how she feels about her son or how she will treat him in future. my daughter was sort of forced into telling the dad a couple years ago during a mental health crisis. and, that's what these youngster go thru - mental health crises - learning to be themselves. being a teen and young adult is difficult enough without the concern of this other dimension - esp when there is nothing to change about it. it's as natural as any other human trait. thanks for sharing this piece.
jd in st louisjdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01416568690547928500noreply@blogger.com
